With the ever expanding tentacles of metabolic disorders, the western society is completely gripped in the mire of weight. Everybody wants to have a flat stomach and look good during the summer season when minimum clothes are required. Learn five essential exercises that you need to do at least four times a week for a beautiful and toned tummy.
Stomach crunches have always been popular and effective type of abs exercises. To do a crunch you have to lay on the back, have your feet flat on the floor and ask somebody to hold them. Put your arms behind the head or on your chest, raise your upper body off the floor tightening your abs, hold for about one second and lay down. Inspire while lying down, exhale while lifting up.
You can use some free weight on your chest to make the exercise harder. Also it is recommended to make side lifts to strengthen side abs muscles.
To do a leg lift you have to lay down on the floor with arms at your sides. Lift slightly bent or straight legs up to about 90 degree angle and after a few seconds lower down ensuring you do not touch the ground with your feet, feel how your lower abs muscles work. Inspire while lying legs down, exhale while lifting up.
You can hold a free weight between your feet to make the exercise harder. Also you can also do this exercise hanging on the sport wall. Remember to ensure your muscles are loaded through all the exercise.
To do a cross you have to lay down on the floor, put your arms behind the head, raising it together with your shoulders. Lift the right knee to the chest and straight left leg up to about 45 degree angle. Inspire and turn the upper body to the right in order to touch the right knee with the left elbow, hold in this position for three seconds. Repeat the exercise with the other leg.
To do scissors stretch both legs, lift head and shoulders. Then lift the left leg up to about 90 degree angle grabbing your shin with your both hands. Lift the right leg up about 15 centimeters off the floor. Exhale and change the legs.
To do this exercise you have to lay flat on your stomach with legs straight and arms extended above your head. Lift your body up with hands clasped together. Hold this position for as long as you can stand it and lower down.
Repeat all the exercises for twenty times four times a week for a great look and feel.
Also remember that also you have to select stomach exercises you will be really willing to complete and stick with to benefit from it. Bear in mind that your tummy will look tighter and you will look better if you combine exercising with overall weight loss plan as you will not be able to reduce fat only on the one part of your body just by exercising.

You’ve struggled through months of watching every mouthful, counting every calorie or carb, and exercising even if the weather is lousy. Finally you’ve reach your goal. However 6 months later the weight is starting to creep back. Having lost some weight are you finding it difficult to keep it off? This is a common problem and a real challenge. It seems we all work so hard to lose the weight but the minute we take a breather, back it comes. It is not only difficult to maintain the loss but also to lose further weight.
However, there are three secrets to maintain weight loss.
1. Set yourself a realistic goal. Wanting to lose huge amounts of weight in a hurry isn’t practical and you could soon start feeling the strain of trying to achieve your unrealistic targets. Your body is comfortable and adjusted to the heftier weight. Unfortunately it will want to get back to that comfortable weight until it gets used to the thinner you. When that happens your enthusiasm is likely to wane and you may find it difficult to stick to the program. Try to aim to lose one to two pounds a week. This is easier to stick to and maintain. Your body gets used to the lower weight and you won’t have such a struggle. Slow but steady wins the race. It took time to gain that weight. Take time to lose the weight.
2. Try to balance your calorie intake with the amount of energy you can burn. You need to make sure you burn more calories than you consume to show any tangible results. Even consuming one soda, which is about 150 calories, makes a difference. 150 calories may not seem like much but if you take that much more in every day than you burn, you can gain a pound in 3 weeks and that means you’ve gained 17 pounds in a year.
3. Use a pedometer to calculate how many steps you take in a day. Keep adding 250 steps every day in weekly increments. Most adults who lead a sedentary life - is that you - walk 2500 to 3500 steps a day. If you add 250 steps every week for 10 weeks. You’ll double your energy expenditure. Ideally try to add on 4000 to 6000 steps a day to your current schedule. If you can ultimately take a total of over 10, 000 steps a day you will see a visible difference in your weight loss progress.
You are bound to maintain your weight loss in this manner if you utilize these three secrets to maintain weight loss.

Satiety is feeling full, gratified. Most diet programs leave people feeling hungry - which has a host of other effects. When you feel hungry, you increase the likelihood that you will binge the next time you eat. Hunger can also lead to depression, anger, and headaches.
A diet can achieve satiety in multiple ways - like eating every 3-4 hours. This is a component of most diet plans available today for a very good reason - eating smaller, more frequent meals has been proven to help burn fat and keep your metabolism revved up.
For fat loss to occur, you must burn more calories than you take in. There are several components to creating a calorie “deficit”, and using them all together will be the most effective. Plus, you won’t be starving yourself like you usually do when you diet. Achieving satiety at the same time as creating a calorie deficit is difficult but not impossible.
How do you create this calorie deficit? It is a combination of watching your intake along with the right types of exercise, which burn calories during and after activity, as long as 36 hours after completion!
Besides eating every 3-4 hours, your diet needs to be rich in 4 components known to make you feel “fuller” but also contribute to fat burning - protein, fats, fiber and water.
One of the most difficult aspects of any fat loss program is getting your portion sizes under control. In order to achieve fat loss you need to create a calorie deficit, and one of the ways to do that is through portion control - but how do you do this while not feeling hungry?
Consuming a lean protein along with healthy fats and fiber at each meal, and eating each meal 3-4 hours apart BEFORE you have a chance to feel hungry again, will cover the satiety aspect. You will also notice that you will feel fuller with less food, so you will be controlling your portions without really focusing on it.
You must include fiber-rich foods in your diet (beans, peas, apples, grapefruit). A major advantage of fiber is the effect on weight control. Studies have shown that the majority of obese people have diets miserably low in fiber. Since fiber-rich foods are filling and usually low in fat, you’ll feel more satisfied with less food and lose weight more easily.
It is recommended that between 20 and 30 grams of fiber be consumed daily and at least eight glasses of water to aid the movement of food through the digestive tract.
Dehydration inhibits fat loss. Most people don’t get enough water on a daily basis, never mind for training / fat loss. When you don’t have enough water, your bowels will also slow down.
Here are a few tips for getting more water into your daily intake:
1. Never let yourself get thirsty - drink enough that you don’t feel parched.2. If exercising, consume one ounce of water for every ounce of body weight lost during exercise. So if you lost one pound after exercising, you should consume 16 ounces of water.3. If you are a goal-oriented person, get a half-gallon jug of water and carry it around with you - your goal is to drink it all by the end of the day.

Exerting near maximum energy for 45-60 seconds and then reverting back to moderate energy for a “rest” period numerous times will burn much more calories than just jogging or doing the elliptical at a near constant rate. So whatever cardio you do, do it in intervals!
3. Keep a log of your workouts. One of the simplest things you can do yet so many of us just do not do it. No matter what weight loss or muscle building program you are on, keep track of your weights, repetitions, and/or times simply so you can better them the next time and keep your routine on track!
4. Cut out the late night snacks. Having the occasional cookie, candy bar, or snack of choice won’t ruin your diet. Having those snacks late at night just may though. When you ingest calories late at night - before you sleep for the next eight hours - your body will not burn them off. But if you eat your snacks - and biggest meals - early in the day before you are active you have a much better chance of burning those calories
5. A “boring” healthy diet is best. This is one you know but how much do you abide by it? Stick to foods rich in whole grains, monounsaturated fats, protein, and all the essential vitamins and minerals you need. These include whole grain breads, fish, many nuts, peanut butter, and eggs.
6. Stretch lightly before and hard after. Imagine a cold and a warm rubber band. Which one expands better? Your most intense stretching should be after your workouts while your muscles are still warm. Not only does this aide in your recovery but stretching your muscles after helps them to grow so that they can become more defined! All of your early stretching should be done after you warm up first.
